NEW TEMPLES FOR NEW TIMES
// malware poetry / alice edy
“The moving of information is a literary act in and of itself. Even when people aren’t reading it.” – Kenneth Goldsmith
“New Temples for New Times” showcases new pieces from Alice Edy’s ongoing body of work collectively titled “{VIRUS}”. These calligraphic texts are created by (re)writing sections of computer code, including malware, hack-ware, and various layers of system programming. In the process of copying out hundreds and hundreds of lines of digital script, fragments of other texts (poetry, philosophy, tweets, and adverts) are also written into the coding; thereby corrupting the files, so that the resultant texts are ultimately illegible to both humans and machines. The familiar becomes foreign, as the pieces challenge the viewer to read the act of writing, rather than the letters themselves.
