Vusi Beauchamp: Terrorist
Catalog
Please join us this Thursday evening for the opening reception of “TERRORIST”.
Mxolisi Vusimuzi Beauchamp or as his paintings are signed “Vusi Beauchamp”, will open a new solo exhibition titled “TERRORIST,” at Kalashnikovv Gallery Johannesburg on Thursday the 6th of October 2016.
The exhibition will feature new paintings and mixed media drawings on paper by this renowned South African artist.
Vusi Beauchamp’s work has been described as “post-race, post-black and post-apartheid,” as well as being synonymous with imagery that depicts jarring iconographies and a provocative usage of medium and technique. Vusi is well known for his non-conformist visual style, for his political commentary and for the deeply satirical nature of his artworks.
In his latest exhibition “TERRORIST” Vusi aims to capture the duality of various ideologies that surround South African history and politics. The sub title “One man’s terrorist is another man’s hero,” describes how history and current events are perceived differently by opposing factions and how history has always been written by those that hold power, however temporary that power may be.
In his own words “Humour is an important ingredient, weather used in my plays, comic books, paintings or when used to simultaneously depict so called realites and stereotyping by the mainstream media. This dual vision (of looking at events both from the inside and outside) reflects the way in which perception is shaped by the media and subsequently becomes reality.
The exhibition runs from October 6th to October 26th.
