Biography
Justin McGee, AKA SWEATFACE notoriously also known as Sweat Face, hails from Durban but currently resides in Johannesburg. His early photographic work focused on the party scenes of Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg earned him the reputation of being the so called Terry Richardson of South African party scene photography, as he had the innate ability to get his subjects to feel comfortable in some of the most compromising of photos. He later developed his ability to capture truthful and unposed images into a new found more fine art orientated documentary approach. He has also subsequently started to develop his own photographic visual language utulising his images and collaging techniques and video to great effects reflecting his passion and interest for some what controversial subject matter within the many strange and interesting sub cultures within Johannesburg.
Of late he has directed music videos for the likes of BFG, Spoek Mathambo, Moonchild and Eve Rakow (Stolen Pony) to much acclaim.
He has also been included in some very interesting group shows such as “Expressions of Freedom” at Constitution Hill Womens Jail Gallery, “Shoot To Kill” at the Kalashnikovv Gallery and “Working Title” in collaboration with The Frown at The Goodman Gallery.
